What We Believe

The basic tenets of our beliefs as a church can be found in two things that are in our bulletin every week: Our Mission Statement and The Five Solas.

Our Mission Statement is, simply put, what we strive to do and to be.

The mission of LaRue Baptist Church is to worship our grand and glorious God by conforming people to the likeness of Christ by the power of the Spirit, working through His Word.

We feel this is done by the Five Solas -- five phrases in Latin that sum up the fundamentals of our faith.

Sola Scriptura (By Scripture Alone)

"...faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ." (Romans 10.17) Scripture is the final authority for our life.

Solus Christus (Only Christ)

"Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." (Acts 4.12) "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." (John 10.10) "I am the way and the truth and the life.No one comes to the Father except through Me.' (John 14.6)

Sola Gratia (By Grace Alone)

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith -- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of god -- not by works, so that no one can boast." (Ephesians 2.8-9)

Sola Fide (By Faith Alone)

"This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe." (Romans 3.22) "For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law." (Romans 3.27) "Clearly, no one is justified before God by the law, because 'The righteous will live by faith'." (Galatians 3.11)

Soli Deo Gloria (Only for the Glory of God)

"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." (1 Corinthians 10.31)
